Please know this is being addressed to the entire team and not a certain individual. I want everyone to spend your time off thinking about a couple things:
Today, I left the golf club with a sour taste in my mouth along with disappointment. I had some members approach me after the event informing me that we have a couple of caddies that were out kicking golf balls into better lies during the tournament. I obviously was appalled at the accusations. 1… It is flat-out cheating! 2…It is a complete disrespect to what Peachtree Golf Club is all about. and 3… most disappointing, you are making your team and the caddie program look bad.
This club was founded by Bobby Jones, who some say is the most accomplished golfer in the long history of the game. Not only known for his golf skills, he was known first and foremost as a man of HONESTY and INTEGRITY. These characteristics were demonstrated notably at the 1925 US Open where he called a penalty on himself, and eventually lost the tournament as a result. Not to bore you with golf history but a famous quote came out of this…from none other than Mr. Jones:
“There is only one way to play the game. When you cheat at golf, you are only cheating yourself.”
All you guys have signed your paperwork, and a big part of this is your “Access to Property” document which states the club’s rules. Rule #8 addresses dishonesty and rule #10 mentions immoral conduct.
Here’s the deal…Going forward, if anyone is caught or even an accusation disregarding the integrity of the game of golf, the golf staff can and WILL ban you from the property. This will be non-negotiable.
A simple reminder: “That Caddie” often turns into “Those Caddies”. You are letting your brothers down.
Again, check your ego at the gate EVERYDAY and do the right thing.
